Soloists for our 2026/27 season
David will be joining us to perform Arutiunian's Trumpet Concerto as part of our Orchestral Masterpieces concert in RBAI's Common Hall.
David started playing the trumpet at school at the age of 12, attending the SEELB Concert Band. Upon leaving school, he embarked on a 25-year professional career, studying at the RMSM Kneller Hall, where he was awarded 2nd prize in the Frank Wright Cornet Competition. He also performed a variety of musical genres with many different ensembles around the world.
Since retiring from professional music in 2007, David has remained heavily involved in amateur music-making in Northern Ireland. He has been Principal Trumpet with the SSO for approximately the last 15 years and plays Principal Cornet with Dynamic Brass. He has won the Best Soloist prize in his section on a number of occasions at local brass band contests.
One of the highlights of his playing career was performing Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto with the SSO, and he is looking forward to repeating the experience with the Arutiunian Trumpet Concerto.
